Drama While Shopping

Richard and I decided to go out today to the Market for something tasty. It was drizzling a bit while we walked to the bus station. By the time we got off downtown, it was super windy and fully raining. And since I don’t wear pants anymore, my skirt was going everywhere. Luckily it was long enough to not have me be indecent. We got a whole block towards the market before we had to take shelter in a store.

While we were there we looked around for a better coat for me, as I only had a denim jacket that is now too small. We looked and looked and the only ones I loved were really expensive. So we decided to find lunch/dinner and then go to Ross. One burrito later we were in Ross trying on coats. Nearby was a group of teenage girls doing their thing until I started trying on coats. They moved nearby and started talking smack about someone. Only overhearing bits and pieces, I thought they were teasing each other. But when I didn’t hear anyone say a comeback, I glanced over. They were all staring at me. One of them had the decency to apologize.

I kept trying on coats but became immensely self conscious. I could hear them saying things like “Who does she think she is?” and “Why is she wearing that?” I had no idea what they were talking about. I wasn’t wearing anything weird. So I went back to where Richard was and told him what I heard. He said they had been staring at me the entire time. While I was talking to him I could hear one girl telling another that I was talking about them. I didn’t care. I continued trying on coats while they stood not 10 feet away from me talking shit. Then I heard, “Does she think she’s a fucking cat?” Oh. My collar. They were talking about my collar.

I wear a black leather collar with pink satin trim and a golden bell that jingles when I move. I think it’s pretty. They apparently think someone would have to be a freak of nature to put one on. Ah well. I got a fantastic coat.
